Today my post is going to center around meal prep. I chose to use my honey balsamic chicken thighs with mountain red blend rice and roasted sweet potatoes and beets. This is an awesome meal for this time of year! I love roasted root veggies as the weather gets chilly.

I bought this mountain red blend rice at wegmans and it’s absolutely delicious. I cook it on the stove and it requires minimal cook time which is nice. It’s a blend of red heirloom rices, black quinoa, and green lentils. You know how I love my complex carbs.


Next I focused on the roasting. I went with sweet potatoes and beets this time. Both of which are awesome choices. Beets have so many health benefits and sweet potato is another one of those complex carbs to add to your diet ! I like to put these on a sheet pan with olive oil and sea salt for almost an hour. Check on them to see how they’re doing and move them around periodically. You can also roast carrots, Brussel sprouts, shallots, mushrooms, parsnip, etc.

Next is the chicken. I keep my product in the freezer so I pulled these out yesterday and put them in the fridge to defrost. When I woke up this morning I made my marinade. I could have googled a recipe but instead I just went for it. Got a big mixing bowl out and threw in some lovely aged balsamic vinegar, olive oil, honey, garlic, and sea salt. Let my chicken marinade in this in the fridge for about 3 hours. When I thought it looked good I popped them in the oven at 350 for 35 minutes and they were exactly where I wanted them to be.

After all my food was cooked and ready to go I popped it into four separate containers and boom! My meals until Sunday.



A lot of people ask me if I get sick of the same thing all week but honestly I really don’t mind. That being said you have to do what’s best for you and it might mean prepping more frequently for more variety. But all in all meal prep is a great way to cut down on time spent in the kitchen, reduce your portion sizes, and keep you focused on what you should be fueling your body with.

  1. L’Oréal Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold: guys seriously this is the best hairspray ive ever used…hands down. It will hold my curl all day long but never gets sticky or tacky. It doesn’t dry my hair out at all or make it look dirty. You can spray it on your hair and brush through it with ease yet it still packs some strength and holds your look all day long.
  2. Briogeo Rosarco Blow Dry Perfection and Heat Protectant Creme: again, I got this amazing product in one of my Boxy charm boxs and I literally can’t live without it. This product makes my hair literally so smooth and shiny and I get so many compliments on my color after I use this. It looks like I ran a straightener through my hair after I blow it out. It gives it that shine and gloss without weighing it down or making the hair lose body. And on top of that it protects from heat and damage. Oh and it’s paraben, sulfate, and cruelty free.  Huge WIN.
  3. Project Beauty Hairgurt in Strawberry Banana: okay everyone this product right here is BOMB. You take one wiff of this hair mask and I swear you think you’re on an island somewhere drinking a smoothie. It’s made with probiotics, quinoa, and super botanicals to nourish your hair for days. You can use this in the shower as a conditioner or leave it on as a mask and rinse. This product is also paraben, sulfate, and cruelty free. Love.
  4. Aloepure Skin Care Time Repair Serum: everyone loves a quality serum for after they cleanse and exfoliate their face. This one right here is super refreshing and leaves skin feeling fresh and beautiful. It doesn’t have an overly noticeable scent which is nice. I use this product daily and my skin loves it.
  5. 100% Pure Jasmine Green Tea Tonique: okay people literally I am so obsessed with this. My bottle is almost empty and I might actually shed a tear until I can get my hands on more. Spraying a tonique on your face after cleansing is one of the most amazing feelings in this life. It’s so refreshing and cool and is just one of the finer moments of my day. This product is 100% natural and vegan and cruelty free. Bombdigity.
  6. John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Lightening Spray: this was an epic find! I’m sure I’m late on this train. This stuff seriously makes me feel like I just got fresh color. I spray this maybe every 4 washes and it keeps my color looking fresh af. It’s also available at the drug store and it’s not super expensive. Fellow barbies: get your claws on this ish.
  7. Philosophy Purity One Step Facial Cleanser: do I even have to explain this one? Come on guys, it’s a philosophy product. Bomb. Bomb. Bomb.
  8. Marula Facial Oil: ahhhhhh give me all of it. This product came in my Boxy Charm box for November. At this point if you haven’t already signed up for Boxy Charm idk if we can hang (kidding😘) but really tho. This oil is fuggin amazing. The scent is beautiful. It leaves my skin feeling like I just left the spa. And not to mention I was just on sephora.com looking for Christmas presents and I stumbled across this baby priced at like 70 big ones ! I will remind you I got this in Boxy Charm that costs me 20 bucks for 5 full size items. Anyway, this oil is life and I highly recommend👌🏻
  9. Last but certainly not least, Rusk Sensories Bright anti- brassy Shampoo: this product is awesome ! My stylist recommended this to me after I got my last full foil. It’s super purple and really helps with the brassy look I get occasionally. Really really makes my blonde pop. I use this in conjunction with John Frieda spray from above. I’ll use Rusk every 4 washes, towel dry my hair and spray the lightening spray on damp hair. Really helps when you are half way between another color.

Go ahead girl

#LegDay

Woke up this morning after working a 12 hour shift yesterday feeling like I got hit by a dump truck. My puppy was cuddled as close to me as he could get and the covers felt like a layer of heaven. It was pitch black. My boyfriend must have hit snooze 9 times so by this time I was thinking it was at least 7 o’clock. Nope…5:45. Ugh. 

Somehow managed to slide out of bed and grab some coffee. The second that first sip hit my soul I thought to myself #NoExcuses

I got my leggings and tank on and marched my booty all the way to LA Fitness for my favorite day of the week.

If you want to achieve the results you desire you have to climb mountains, jump hurdles, push through fatigue, and kick some fricken ass💪🏻

This is one of two leg workouts I do a week. This is a slower style workout with heavier weights where I focus more on form and perfecting my technique.

I start out with a warm up. I grab a basketball and hit the court for 15 minutes and shoot around. I played basketball competitively for ten years so this warm up not only gets my blood flowing but soothes my soul and eases my stress.

After I warmed up I jumped right into it:

  1. Squats on bar 80 lbs 3 x10 
  2. Weighted step ups with 2 20lb dumbbells 
  3. Lunges on box with 2 20 lb dumbbells
  4. Leg press 320 lbs 4×10 
  5. Leg push downs on machine 85 lbs 3×10
  6. Deadlifts 50 lb bar 3×10
  7. Walking lunges 50 lb bar 3×10

Look back at it

#SummerSixteen

Leaning back in my chair at work zoning out realizing that only two more hours separate me from a day and a half off. Thank you Jesus.

While I should be working I’m going to share with you guys what quite possibly was the best summer of my life.

#Grateful

 

Spent a week in August in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and California. These first three were taken at Zion National Park in Utah.


The next two are at Bryce National Park also in Utah.

The next was my favorite spot of all the national parks, Grand Canyon North Rim in Arizona.

We ended the week with my family in Malibu, California.

society is turning me into a sugar cube 

ahhhhh the holidays are here! This means there are endless reasons to overeat, overindulge, and over-do-it.

Basically starting on Halloween day the flood gates open and the huge wave of candies, pies, cookies, wine, and other quite delicious and highly fattening foods wash over you like a shower from the gods. I mean you are allowed to treat yourself right? Over and over…and over…and over again until you feel as though it’s no longer a treat but a string of days of constant bloat.

Here’s the thing though: everyone no matter who you are deserves to enjoy their lives and indulge in things that set their souls on fire. But I’d like to share some tips with you to help put the brakes on and make that candy train come to a screeching hault.

  1. Load up on complex carbs. These not only reduce inflammation and support digestion but they keep you fuller longer ! Try to replace rice with quinoa or farro. Eat a banana in the morning before work. Load up on leafy greens in your salad or cooked as a side with your salmon.
  2. Incorporate foods high in good fat! These foods actually promote weight loss. What!? These include avocados, fatty fish, almonds, and extra virgin olive oil.
  3. Water, water, and more water. I shoot for 140 ounces of water a day. The more hydrated I am, the less hungry I feel.
  4. Curb your cravings for sweets by substituting healthier choices. Organic peanut butter on a rice cake is my go to. Or maybe I’ll munch on some cocoa covered almonds for the chocolate craving.
  5. Lastly, let yourself cheat every now and then!!! Have 1 piece of pie a week instead of 9 and when grandma offers you Christmas cookies gladly accept 🙂

Fido has healing powers

It’s no secret that hugging your puppy butt makes you feel all warm and fuzzy and ready to burst into tears of joy and happiness. But along with your irrational obsession for your furry friend, he’s actually healing you both mentally and physically.

There is now a ton of data out there proving that pets are increasing your quality of life and improving your mental health.

Two researchers, one from Purdue University, and the other from The University of Pennsylvania actually measured what happens when people love on their pets. They found that blood pressure lowered, heart rate slowed, breathing became more regular, and muscle tension relaxed. All of these occurred between 5 and 24 minutes after interacting with the pet. That’s faster than many drugs take to kick in!

Next time your feeling stressed over your lame boss, annoying friend, world hunger, Donald trump, your chipped nail polish, or the mound of shit piling up from unavoidable laziness, do yourself a favor and hug your dog.

Throw out your treadmill-circuits are where it’s at

Circuit training is my ish lately💪🏻

Put 20 mins on the clock.

Pick a space like a racquetball court where you can sprint up and back several times, do jumping jacks, or alternating jumping lunges to keep your heart rate up the whole time. Feel free to improvise on this one.

Pick two exercises that you can alternate for the duration of the time. In between these exercises is when you will do the cardio piece.

For example:

Bicep curls x10

30 jumping jacks

Thrusters with 25 lb plate x10

30 jumping jacks

Bicep curls x10

30 jumping jacks

Etc.

As you get better and better at circuit training you can improvise even more. Add weight when necessary or do more reps. You can switch up what type of cardio you want to incorporate. The MAIN goal here is to keep your heart rate up, get a good sweat, and do as many rounds of this as possible.

This is based on a cross fit type workout and is awesome to incorporate into your routine a few days a week. Forget the treadmill and get your butt on the circuit train.
